RED DEER (Cervus Elaphus L.)
During the years, Bulgaria has held 4 world records of red deer: 273,6 CIC points (16,2 kg); 269,94 CIC points (17,2 kg); 263,23 CIC points (14,8 kg); 253,62 CIC points (14,9 kg).
Also half of the top 20 trophies in the world ranking belong to Bulgaria.
Due to the rich natural biotope and proper management, Bulgaria has one of the best red deer populations in the world – animals with powerful, beautiful and symmetrical crowns, dark richly pearled beams, long evenly spaced tines and white ends.
Basic Information
Most successful hunting is during the breeding season from early September to early October. It`s the time when stalking can be combined with the so called “calling” of the stags – high adrenaline method used to attract and locate the males which however requires some specific skills from the hunter or his guide. Being at the hunting ground while the air reverberates by the roar of the rutting deer is an unforgettable experience. The hunting day starts early. The hunter and his guide have to be at the rutting grounds before down. The evening hunt begins in the late afternoon and ends with the onset of darkness.
After the rut, the hunt continues until the end of January and also hunting from high seat can be used as a hunting method.
Another option for intensive hunt is the selective hunt of young deer (first antlers), calves and old hinds. The hunt continues until the end of December, with optimal conditions in November-December.

Trophies` qualities:
Possible to hunt capital trophies 10 to 14 kg in the hunting grounds of Northeastern Bulgaria where the terrain is flat. Mountain areas are a bit more challenging for hunting considering the terrain but could bring you a very emotional experience and beautiful 7 to 9-10 kg trophy as a reward for your efforts.
Trophies are paid according to the weight in kilograms measured with the upper jaw.
Duration of hunting:
We recommend 5-6 hunting days for a successful red deer hunt, especially if you choose to hunt in the mountain area.
Combination with other species:
Depending on the hunting ground it can be combined with fallow deer, wild boar, mouflon, chamois, predators.
