CHAMOIS (Rupicapra Rupicapra L.)

Balkan chamois is a subspecies common to the mountains of the Balkan Peninsula and it`s one of the few true European wild animals. Its range of distribution is usually between 600 and 2900 m. above sea level. In Bulgaria it can be hunted mostly in Rhodope mountains.
Since 01.01.2007 it is a protected species and requires special authorization for hunting by the Ministry of Environment and Water.

Hunting season
The chamois is hunted in Bulgaria during the following period:

Chamois hunting is interesting and challenging experience. Hunters must be properly equipped and physically fit. Hunt is organized by stalking and, depending on the period, it`s ether hunted in the morning and in the afternoon or almost throughout the day. At night, the goat retires and rests in hidden and hard-to-reach places, from which it emerges at dawn to graze until noon, when it hides again in some shady place to rest. Usually, in the evening he goes out to eat again. In the winter, the goats look for food all day long.
Trophies` qualities:
The females reach up to 90-95 CIC points, the males up to 100-110 CIC points. The trophies are paid according to the CIC evaluation system in points.
Duration of hunting:
Basic duration of the hunting is 4 days, but if you want to combine it with other species you may add one or two more hunting days to your trip.
Combination with other species:
Possible combination with roebuck, wild boar, mouflon, capercaillie, predators.
