EXOTIC SPECIES
Its number in the country is not big and only single tags per year are issued. However, their hunting in Bulgaria is much more accessible compared to their original habitats.
The hunting season for all mentioned species is throughout the year, but because of the skin, we recommend planning hunting from mid-November to the end of February.
The way of hunting is either from high seat or by stalking.
TIBETAN YAK (Bos Mutus P.)
The yak lives wild in the Himalayas. It has been successfully acclimatized in many countries, including Bulgaria where nowadays a very small herd of these animals live.
HIMALAYAN TAHR (Hemitragus jemlahicus)
It`s native to the Himalayas in southern Tibet, northern India and Nepal. It has been introduced to one area in the Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria where its population is constantly growing.
The trophy is the horns and its majestic skin (the mane).
BARBARY SHEEP (Ammotragus lervia)
It`s also called aoudad or arwi, a species native to rocky mountains in North Africa. A small number of this animal has been successfully introduced to Bulgaria some years ago.
BEZOAR IBEX (Capra aegagrus aegagrus)
It`s a wild goat subspecies that is native to the mountain forests from Turkey to Iran. In Bulgaria inhabits a small number of this species in the same hunting ground as the Barbary sheep and the Himalayan tahr.
